So, after my complete failure to finish 100 books in 2017, I thought I’d make my reading challenge this year a bit easier. After all, I am in my final semester of university and will be spending a lot of time reading books on theory (which I am not looking forward to). So, I’m only reading 21 books this year. Simple, right?

Except I’m going to read the entirety of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, in recommended reading order. This is no small feat. The majority of  books in this series are well over 1,000 pages.

I started reading this series in, I think, 2008 or 2009. I’m not going to lie, I found it incredibly difficult to get through the first half of the first book, Gardens of the Moon. But, as soon as the story picked up, I was instantly hooked. I fell in love with the world, the characters, the magic system, everything. I managed to read up to book 8 before I stopped reading the series (through no fault of the series… life got busy and I just… never picked it back up). So, luckily, much of my read through this year will be re-reads. I hope to pick up on details I missed during the first reading.

Before starting this challenge, I did a bit of detail analysis of the series. How many pages each book contains. How many pages I can read on an average night. That sort of thing. It… it worried me. This challenge is going to be incredibly difficult despite already having read a majority of it.

I’m in trouble.
